In my position of working with church planters I have seen time and again God come through in huge ways to provide just what is needed at just the right time. I have also seen satan show up at just the wrong time. I come from a pretty traditional and conservative background. We never spoke about spiritual warfare very much. When we did, it was mostly about angels and the theory of spiritual warfare, not about satan or demons or their actual ability to mess with us.
Church planting has changed that for me. This stuff is real. You only have to talk to a few church planters to see that we cannot do this without God because the forces of evil are doing everything they can to stop new churches from getting started. Time and again the guys that you would least suspect fall prey to temptations they never would have before. Time and again circumstances go bad in ways that just never happen. I could write it off to any number of reasons, but the longer I do this the more I realize it’s plain and simple. Spiritual warfare is real. We have to acknowledge that and depend on God to do His thing.
