Free online advertising

September 5th, 2007 by Doug

The goal of marketing your new church is to get the maximum amount of exposure for the fewest dollars. One great way to do this is to take advantage of free online advertising. Even if one person comes to your church it will be worth the five or ten minutes you spend setting up your online ad.

There are two main places to do this.

  1. Google’s Local Business Center: Here you can place an ad for your church that will show up in Google and Google Maps. You can ad a link to your website, phone number, e-mail, photos, and up to a 200 character description.
  2. yellowpages.com. Yellowpages.com partners with Internet Yellow Page providers Yahoo, AOL & Netscape to get you even more exposure. The free ad will not include any of the bells and whistles, but it will get you listed. A paid ad on yellowpages.com will get you links to your website, photos and a more info section. The more info section contains web crawlers, programs that gather and categorize information for search engines. This paid feature will help you rank higher on search engines, though it comes with no guarantee.

With these two resources any church can afford to place an ad online. All it will cost is a little time.
