Here’s the secret to getting your first press release published… are you ready?

Get to know the reporter.

Build a personal relationship with them. Consider this is a must have relationship for the pastor of the new church. This is true for several reasons.

1. They need to know about Christ and this new church that is there to serve not just the community but them as well. How you represent Christ and the church to them is just as important as whether they publish your article.
2. They are much more likely to publish an article by someone that they know to be “normal” and who cares about the community, than just a name at the bottom of an e-mail.
3. They may be willing to send someone to take pictures (or accept your pictures) to go along with articles if you just ask.
4. If you show a genuine interest (and follow through) in their preferred formats, deadlines, and if applicable, topics they need covered, you will make their job easier.
