How Many??? pt 2

October 10th, 2007 by Patrick

So yesterday I shared that God can, and does in fact, bring different numbers to different church plants. This is very true. We’ve worked with plants that launch with less than 100 people at launch, and plants that launch well over 500 people. I can’t tell you how many people God is going to bring your plant, but here are a few thoughts:

  • God won’t bring more than you can handle. If you haven’t invested in people and in teams, don’t expect 500 people… you can’t support a church that large on your own.
  • God usually relies on us to invite people. You can’t just rent a big auditorium and expect people to show up… you must develop relationships in the community and actually invite people to come. The more relationships you or your team has, the more people are likely to come.
  • God only shows up where He is welcomed and honored. Please remember, this is HIS church. If you try to build this thing on your own strength, He just might let you see where that gets you!
  • Location is huge. Population density (how many people live in a square mile), church presence (how many churches are already in the local community), traffic patterns, demographics, and much more all play into how large your church will be… church plant A in Chicken Scratch, Idaho (pop. 32) should not expect the same results as church plant B in Big City, California (pop. 1,258,493).

more tomorrow…
