Answer: I Saw The Sign
Question: How did you first hear about the church? Outside of direct mail, road signs were the most effective means of marketing when I helped start LifePointe in Charlotte, NC. Now that the church is three years old, most people come because they were invited, but signs remain a common answer to how people find out about the church. When we first started we plastered the area with yard signs (you know the annoying kind that all the politicians use). The sign simply said:
LifePointe is Coming!
A few weeks later we replaced those with a sign that said:
LifePointe is Here!
Sundays 9:30am & 11am
SW Middle School
Here’s a few signage tips.
- Keep wording large and to a minimum. It’s hard to read much at 55mph.
- Place signs at heavily traveled intersections, preferably the ones everyone is sitting at during rush hour.
- Make your website address visible and memorable.
- Place a permanent sign outside of your rented facility. If that doesn’t work, try the dentist across the street and use an arrow to point. It worked for us.
- Use larger A-frame signs with service times and directional arrows to put out on Saturday afternoon.
- Remember: Signs are a first impression piece. Poster board and Sharpies are for garage sales. Make sure your signs are designed and printed with excellence.
