don’t get caught in a spam filter

January 4th, 2008 by Bradley

What email address are you using to communicate with prayer team members, financial supporters, church attenders, and new contacts in your community?

It is a good idea to set up an email address for yourself with your name and the church’s web domain (i.e. bradley@XYZchurch.com).

Here are 2 reasons why you should:

  1. branding: it communicates that your church is legitimate, and also cues them where to find your web site
  2. deliverability: if you are using a free email account like hotmail, google or yahoo, or if you use a generic title, like “info@XYZchurch.com” your emails are more likely to get caught in a spam filter or junk mail box. Plus, the industry has moved toward using spam filters on the system/server level; your email might not even make it as far as the recipient’s junk mail folder.

If your web hosting company hasn’t already set you up with at least one email address for your domain, call them and ask if they’ll do it. And if you still want to receive all your email in one inbox, you can ask them to set up that email account to automatically forward to your hotmail/google/yahoo inbox.

Remember, there is no such thing as over-communication. Happy emailing.
