A frequently asked question I get from church planters is, “How can I accept online payments from supporters?” There are several services out there that provide online payment opinions. The problem is these services all want to take their cut. The best solution that I’ve found is to use Paypal. It is easy to set up and they take the smallest cut. Another widget service called Chip In lets you develop a fundraising specific widget tied to your Paypal account that can easily be inserted into your blog.
Before you start collecting money there are a few legal steps to take.
- Incorporate in your state.
- Obtain a Federal Employer Identification Number
- Open a bank account in the name of the Church
- Open a Paypal account tied to the bank account of your church. *Don’t take donations into your personal account. That can get messy.
