Keeping Church Planters Focused on People

Doing it all yourself…

February 11th, 2008 by Patrick

Is it really worth it doing everything yourself? We’ve talked on this blog about the need to use team based ministry so you can accomplish more than you can on your own. Today I want to extend that just a bit farther… Is it worth doing the church finances in house or are you better off paying someone else.

There’s a tension because sometimes you just don’t have the money to use a sub-contractor to do some sort of “overhead” work. On the other hand I want to ask what the opportunity cost is if you, the church planter, are spending a couple hours a week doing something that someone else could do for you. If you invest that time in the community, with people, will you be better off? It’s not an easy choice, but it is one I want you to make intentionally.

Oh - and yes, you can have volunteers do it. Sometimes this is the best way they can serve. On the other hand perhaps they need to be investing their time in non-Christians just like you.
