Blogging for Community Impact Part 2

July 29th, 2009 by Doug

Part 1 focused on first assessing the needs of your community.

Once you have identified those needs, you now need to look inward to assess the strengths of your church.  This should include:

  1. The gifts and passions of the staff
  2. The talents and resources of the members
  3. Ask, “What are you already known for in the community?”  If you are a new church, “What do you hope to be known for?”

Once you have identified the strengths of your church.  The next step is to find the overlap.  The sweet spot of a missional ministry in the church will be where the needs of the community intersect with the strengths of the church. Frederick Buechner said, “God’s calling is where you deepest passion meets the world’s deepest needs.”  God understands the needs of the people in your community and has placed your church there on purpose.  You may not be equipped to meet every need in the community, but chances are God has given you the resources to meet at least one.

Once you have determined the missional ministry your church will focus on, its time to develop a blogging strategy.  Next week, I’ll focus on incorporating blogging into your missional ministry.
