Blogging for Community Impact Part 4

August 12th, 2009 by Doug

Part 1 focused on first assessing the needs of your community.

Part 2 focused on assessing the strengths of your church and finding areas of overlap between community needs and church strengths.

Part 3 focused on developing a blogging strategy.

This final post will focus on the benefits of Blogging for Community Impact.

  1. Credibility and trust. Blogging will increase your credibility in the community when focused around meeting needs.  The blog is a tangible way that people can see what the church is doing in the community.
  2. Reinforces vision. Some of you may be thinking how are we ever going to get people in the community reading it?  But, what if the only people that read your blog are people from within the church?  What are they going to learn?  In the American culture, missional DNA is one of the hardest things to develop in a person and a church.  For them to regularly read a blog that focuses on the community needs and not their needs will reinforce that missional DNA and constantly remind them of the mission of the church.
  3. Platform for communication about service. Blogging will be a small part of your missional strategy.  But it’s a non-threatening way that people can connect and learn about other things you are doing.
  4. A library of resources. Each post is a resource that helps meet community needs.  Over time you will have a library of resources to offer your community.
